Oranga Tamariki

Oranga Tamariki, also known as the Ministry for Children and previously the Ministry for Vulnerable Children, is a government department in New Zealand responsible for the well-being of children, specifically children at risk of harm, youth offenders and children of the State.

We are dedicated to supporting any child in New Zealand whose wellbeing is at significant risk of harm now, or in the future- offering social service care and protection for children up to 18 years of age.

The Transition Support Service can help young people who are leaving care or youth justice up to the age of 25 years.

Call our free helpline and chat to one of our friendly youth workers. We’re here to listen and help you.

We can support you to:

  • Find a place to live
  • Get your driver’s licence
  • Find a job
  • Get legal advice
  • Get counselling
  • Enrol in a training course
